Najla Said is an Egyptian visual artist revolving into the intimate and overlooked sides of life in Cairo. She highlights the underlying dynamics within the complex structure of its society. Her creations revolve around notions of identity, femininity and womanhood.
A fruit and its seed, 2020-2022.
Driven by personal experiences, the work tackles the narrow definitions of femininity and womanhood that Arab women have been limited to. The work draws inspiration from Egyptian native culture and aims to propose alternative representations of femininity through a process of recontextualization.
