Whataboutery 8: Towards non-materialistic understanding of fashion
Powered by Transfashional
During State of Fashion, a presentation, debate or talk is organised every Friday in our event space: The Whataboutery. How can we come up with solutions for the sustainability issue that is so urgent in the fashion industry? Like the exhibition, the discussions in the Whataboutery are part of the search for the new luxury. You as a visitor are cordially invited to think along critically, ask questions, and have a conversation with our special guests.
José Teunissen leads the debate on the theme ‘#imagination’ and enters into dialogue with the researchers and academics behind the research project Transfashional. This project was initiated in 2016 with the intention to highlight practices which seek to expand disciplinary boundaries, merging fashion with visual and performing arts, design, architecture and other creative domains. Combining prefix ‘trans’ with adjective ‘fashional’, this newly coined term aims to launch a challenge to move beyond fashion as we know it. How does fashion, as an industry and as a system, redefine and renew itself?

After completing an MA degree in Metalwork and Jewellery at the Royal College of Art, London, Filmer built her reputation through catwalk collaborations with designers such as Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan and Anne Valerie Hash.
